HPS STEM Team

In March, 2024, the Hartford Public School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) team learned that they were selected to participate in a groundbreaking K-12 STEM Education collaboration between the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and General Motors (GM) to promote artificial intelligence (AI) explorations and their practical use in school environments. HPS STEM Director Dr. Joanna Ali submitted the application for the ISTE GM AI Exploration Program and learned her entire team, consisting of Instructional Technology Coaches Jordan Wissinger and William Cheney and STEM Coach Mellissa Adams, also earned scholarships!

As participants in the program, they will join approximately 375 educators and educational leaders for extraordinary professional learning that includes:

• A scholarship for free access to the 15-hour Artificial Intelligence Explorations for Educators online course to be completed as a cohort with weekly submissions from March 18 - May 12, 2024. This includes weekly support and feedback from an ISTE online course coach.

• Inclusion in a shared Al online community and webinar series, where the team can connect with other learners and experts throughout the year.

• Input into the future of ISTE's Al offerings through program evaluation surveys.

• Plus, a one-year ISTE membership following successful course completion and opportunities for continued involvement after the course.

The team will complete the online Al course this spring. Their experience will help guide discussions about AI instruction and usage in HPS.
