Hernán LaFontaine Classical Magnet School Takes Home the HPS Esports Winter Cup

The HPS Esports Winter CupCongratulations to the members of the Hernán LaFontaine Classical Magnet School Esports team and coach Eric Dizenzo, who took home the top prize in the Doc Hurley Classic-style Esports tournament, the HPS Esports Winter Cup, which brought eight schools together over the course of two days on January 23 and 24. Initiated by University High School of Science and Engineering (UHHSE), the event began with middle school and high school teams playing online at their own schools all across the district. Then the two winning teams advanced to the finals on Saturday, January 24, an in-person challenge hosted at Great Path Academy’s new Esports and computer science lab.

In addition to UHSSE, the bracket included Great Path Academy, Sport and Medical SMSA Esports teamSciences Academy, Classical Magnet School, Bulkeley High School, Annie Fisher STEM Magnet School, and Pathways Academy, who were playing Rocket League and Smash Bros. We are grateful to our school administrators, STEM and Technology Academics team members, our educational technology support, and all the teachers and coaches who make Esports possible in our schools.
