Hartford Public Schools is so proud of our student athletes from Bulkeley, Capital Prep, Classical Magnet, Hartford Public, HMTCA, SMSA, University High, and Weaver who competed at the 2026 GHC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center Field House in New Haven on February 4.
Per Robert Knapp in MySportsResults.com, in a little more than a decade of indoor track and field competition the Capitol Region Athletic League (CRAL) has seen growth in member schools from four to over a dozen as well as a name change to the Greater Hartford Conference (GHC).
The 2026 GHC Indoor Track and Field Championships, held February 4 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, saw meet records broken and ended with the Innovation boys and Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy(HMTCA) girls earning the top team honors.
In the Boys Championship, the meet record party was shared by Hartford Public High School’s Hanief Jones as reset records in two events; the 55m in 6.50 and the 300m in 36.36.
The title train kept rolling for the Hartford Magnet Trinity Academy Phoenix girls team as they took home their fourth consecutive title with 97 points to outscore runner-up University High School with 70 points.
The Phoenix relied heavily on their talented junior sprinter Tiriyah Walker who scored wins in the 300m (44.23) and as part of their winning 4x200m relay with their season best of 1:52.73.
Harmony Holmes reset the meet record in the shot put with her toss of 36-00 that also moved her up to a CT#10 this season.
Another busy winner was Olivia Reyes who scored a win in the high jump, placed 6th in the long jump and was also a part of their 4x200m team that included Walker, Trocari Griffith-McCalop and Avery Dumas.
Their 4x800m quartet of Olivia Soares, Gabriella Mera, Nariema White, and Jaime Juarez sped to the meet record of 12:17.09.
University High School athletes gave a good effort to keep it close as they assembled important points in the distance events led by double winner Natania Dhanagar in the 1600m and 3200m as well as a win in the 1000m by Isabella Sorvillo in her PR of 3:47.86
The only other meet record came in the 55m finals as senior Tania Turner of Classical Magnet sped to her PR of 7.30 that moved her up to a CT#7 this season.
