We're excited to share the launch of our new Aspiring Leadership Cohort, an exciting opportunity for eight of our assistant principals aspiring to the principalship at Hartford Public Schools. These aspiring leaders will work directly alongside a principal mentor and Cabinet members to learn the full, intricate scope of what it takes to lead a school. This program is central to how we grow our own. We want to invest in the leaders already here by giving them real-world, hands-on exposure to the principalship duties and obligations, and the chance to build the skills and confidence the role demands.
Over the course of the year, they will:
• Learn to operate a school budget, including funding decisions and resource planning
• Sit alongside their mentors on the District Safety Team and Attendance Team
• Partner with the Teaching & Learning team to support the Strategic Operating Plan
• Gain firsthand building leadership experience, including opportunities to cover for principals during absences, conferences, and vacancies (in alignment with HPSA union agreements)
