Teacher Eligibility

All Hartford Public School teachers must be licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). 

There are two pathways to eligibility for educator certification in Connecticut:

  • eligibility based on program preparation or

  • eligibility based on teaching experience. 

Please visit the Connecticut State Department of Education website (http://www.ctcert.org) to learn more about each type and which certificate you should pursue based on where you are in your career.

If you are certified in another state or country and are eligible to work in the United States, we encourage you to consider opportunities in the Hartford Public Schools.

The CSDE (http://www.ctcert.org) is the best source for information on how to obtain Connecticut state teaching licensure.

Employee Referral Program

Hartford Public Schools offers an Employee Referral Program to encourage and reward staff members who help bring great staff to the District.

You can receive a referral fee up to $1,500 for each candidate who is successfully hired. 

  •  $1,500 for certified staff and school nurses

  •  $500 for non-certified staff

The referral must be submitted through the New Hire Referral Form prior to the referred candidate’s application submission.
