One day before the first day of school, our teachers and staff celebrated the new year with Hartford Public Schools' yearly Convocation Celebration.

The ceremony included messages from Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, Mayor Luke Bronin, Board of Education Vice Chair Rev. AJ Johnson, and Carol Gale from The Hartford Federation of Teachers.

Our keynote speakers included Teacher of the Year Melanie Zamorski and MLK 8th grader Shawna-Kay Senior who delivered a wonderful speech touching on the importance and the impact that teachers have on their students.

We had the pleasure of having some of our very own teachers sing the national anthem, as well as performances by the Premier Drumline from Kennelly School and  MLK Students rendition of Funga Alafia  a song of welcome. Our teachers are starting the year with motivation and enthusiasm for teaching students.
