The College Board Big Future National Recognition Programs award academic honors to high-performing, underrepresented students. 24 of Hartford Public Schools students earned a recognition this year. The recognition programs include 5 separate awards for students who identify as African American, First-Generation, Hispanic, Indigenous, or those who qualify for the National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program. Recipients are high school students who are both strong academic performers and who meet the score requirements of the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Exams. Many colleges intentionally recruit awardees.

"The award is meaningful to me because it allows me to demonstrate my abilities and recognizes my academic achievements as an African American/ black woman," states Great Path Academy student, Khadijah Sani.

When asked what her plans are for career and/or college studies, she continues, "My college plans are not set in stone, but I definitely know I want to attend somewhere out of state, and receiving this award will show prospective universities how serious I am about my education."

Weaver High School student, Cheryl Eseke reflects, "Receiving the College Board Big Future National Recognition Award is both an honor and a reminder that hard work and perseverance lead to endless possibilities. This recognition fuels my drive for my future career and inspires me to continue reaching for my dreams. I’m excited to take this next step towards college and its opportunities hoping that the future holds so much potential."

Also from Weaver High, student Shaunavahn Reid shares, "As someone who desires to major in creative writing in hopes of becoming an author, being recognized for my hard work will help me stand firm regardless of the struggle I may encounter on my path toward my desired profession."

Hartford Public High School student, Christina Jackson states, "In order to reach your goals, you need to take today as an opportunity to do more than you did yesterday."
