Hartford Public Schools is pleased to announce that Dr. AndraƩ Townsel officially began serving as Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Born and raised in the beautiful city of Detroit, Michigan, he was a student-athlete at Cass Technical High School, and is a graduate of Detroit Public Schools. He earned a football scholarship to Howard University in Washington, DCāa path that ultimately led him to earn a Bachelorās, Masterās, and Doctoral degree from the esteemed institution.
Dr. Townsel began his educational journey in the District of Columbia and has since held nearly every position in the Kā12 education system, including student teacher, teacher, head coach, assistant dean, dean of students, central oļ¬ce specialist, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and now a highly eļ¬ective superintendent. His well-rounded experience, combined with a deep commitment to educational excellence and student success, has made him a respected and transformational leader in every district he has served.

Now, I am eager to bring that same energy, commitment, and passion to Hartford,ā he added.

Nacido y criado en la hermosa ciudad de Detroit, Michigan, fue estudiante atleta en Cass Technical High School y se graduĆ³ del sistema de Escuelas PĆŗblicas de Detroit. Obtuvo una beca de fĆŗtbol americano para la Universidad Howard en Washington, DCāinstituciĆ³n donde finalmente llegĆ³ a obtener sus tĆtulos de Bachillerato, MaestrĆa y Doctorado.
El Dr. Townsel iniciĆ³ su trayectoria educativa en el Distrito de Columbia y desde entonces ha ocupado casi todos los cargos dentro del sistema educativo Kā12, incluyendo maestro en formaciĆ³n, maestro, entrenador principal, subdecano, decano de estudiantes, especialista en la oficina central, subdirector, director, superintendente adjunto y ahora superintendente altamente eficaz.
