With great pride, we announce that on December 13, 2025, Hartford Public Schools Superintendent and CEO, Dr. AndraƩ Townsel was officially installed as President-Elect of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE.)
The National Alliance of Black School Educators is a non-profit organization that is devoted to furthering the academic success for the nation's children, especially those children of African ancestry. The NABSE was founded in 1970 and is the nation's largest network of African American educators program.
Dr. Townsel states, "I am deeply honored and humbled to have been officially installed as President-Elect of the NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF BLACK SCHOOL EDUCATORS (NABSE) on December 13, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. As a superintendent, I remain committed to serving students, uplifting educators, and advocating for communities through the power of education. Together, we will āSET THE BAR. MEET THE BAR. EXCEED THE BAR. RAISE THE BAR!ā for all students in Hartford Public Schools and for public education across this nation."
NABSE maintains "6 Big Priorities," which include on a national level:
Improvement of Student Outcomes in the Areas of Early Childhood Access, Literacy and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
Organization of Leadership Development Institutes and Career Development Programs
Educator Recognition Programs
Legislative Involvement
Research and Best Practices Clearinghouse
Redesign of the Economic Model of NABSE through Targeted Programming
Part of Dr. Townsel's work as president of NABSE will be to uphold the 6 Priorities and guide the organization in its work, including planning the annual Superintendent Summit.
