Capt. Scott and our 8th Grade Student Speakers

On September 28, 2026, Hartford Public Schools hosted Space in the Community, a program supported through the Space Foundation and sponsored by the William Petit Family Foundation. Captain Winston E. Scott (former NASA astronaut who flew two Space Shuttle missions and completed three spacewalks) gave a presentation and held a discussion with our 8th grade students at Weaver High School, and with our high school students at Bulkeley High School.

Captain Scott shared his story and flight experiences to help students think about careers in aerospace, engineering, and the military. After a brief, and sometimes mind-binding presentation about life in antigravity, Captain Scott held a generous question and answer session with the students.

Very special thanks to the mentors from Lockheed Martin, Collins Aerospace, and Pratt & Whitney who joined our students at Bulkeley High School, and to the Petit Family Foundation for funding this important work.
