<NEW> Hartford Promise Homegrown Talent Breakfast
On November 5, I was honored to join members of the Hartford Promise team and State Senator Derek Slapp for a morning of community conversation. The Hartford Promise, our scholarship and support program, introduced their Reaching Beyond program, which connects our talented, post-graduate, young people to the employers who need them. Hartford Promise also has a Reaching Back program which supports our HPS students and prepares them for college, and Reaching Forward which provides support for Promise Scholars currently enrolled in college.
Families, I urge you to learn more about Hartford Promise today: Hartford residency PLUS enrollment in a Hartford Public School high school for all four years PLUS a 93% or better cumulative attendance record during high school, and a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA means College is Covered!
<NEW> Annie Fisher STEM Magnet School Earns NGAR CT School of Distinction Status for Mathematics
Please join me in congratulating the teachers, staff, families, students, and leaders of Annie Fisher STEM Magnet School. They have earned, through their excellent results in the State’s Next Generation Accountability Report (NGAR,) the title of NGAR Connecticut State School of Distinction in Mathematics - Level 2. The school’s leaders, Principal Erin Wilson and Assistant Principal Angela Boratko surprised their students, families, and staff with the great news in an assembly on November 5. Together the community celebrated their consistent increase in proficiency in mathematics, English language arts, and in science.
Per Principal Wilson, what this means for Annie Fisher STEM is that they will continue to learn and grow in proficiency; continue to set goals, meet them, then create new goals; they will continue on their path to Blue Ribbon status through consistent academic growth; and they will continue to raise the bar and exceed the bar!
Connecticut’s Next Generation Accountability System is a broad set of 12 indicators that assist in telling the story of how well schools are preparing students for success in college, careers, and life.

Hartford HealthCare invites you to their annual, free Medical Mission event at Hartford Public High School tomorrow, Saturday November 8 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hartford Public High School, located at 55 Forest Street, Hartford, CT. You and your children can receive free medical services and useful information, including: health screenings, behavioral health services, lab tests, vaccinations, prescriptions, reading glasses, community resources, and more. <NEW> Students Participate in Hartford Marathon Foundation’s Fit Kids Run
On October 30, in the brisk autumn weather, young student-athletes in grades 4 through 8 from several of our schools participated in the Hartford Marathon Foundation’s Fit Kids Run: Final Mile event in New Britain at Walnut Hill Park. Big congratulations to our students, families, gym teachers, and staff who made the run – from Breakthrough North, Breakthrough South, Parkville Community School, Renzulli Academy, West Middle, Expeditional Learning Academy, Montessori at Batchelder, and Noah Webster Microsociety Magnet School. Special thanks to the Hartford Marathon Foundation and Dick’s Sporting Goods who covered the cost of all buses, healthy snacks, T-shirts, and medals for participants. Kudos to our event champions – the teachers in our schools who made this event possible and held preparatory running practices for the students, raising the bar for good health and fitness!

<NEW> Hartford Public High School’s Athletic Alumni Honorary and Mural Unveiling
Join me next Saturday, November 15 at Hartford Public High School for their Athletic Alumni Honorary and Mural Unveiling from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at their fieldhouse, located at 55 Forest Street in Hartford. Together we will celebrate the outstanding achievements of our HPHS Owls athletic alumni and honor their contributions to their school’s legacy. We will also take part in the unveiling of a beautiful, new mural created by Katiana Jarbath Smith from the RiseUp Group right here in Hartford. < NEW> My First 100 Days
Today was my 95th day of learning, listening, and sharing ideas with our HPS community. This week, I was very happy to participate in the CTLM K/1 Data Meeting at Parkville Community School to support our teachers with learning about progress monitoring within our data analysis process, and to learn how to apply the findings to lesson planning. This session deepened teachers' understanding of the purpose and practical application of progress monitoring in their classrooms. I also met with members of the CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection to discuss school safety, and attended the Hartford Promise Homegrown Talent Breakfast to learn more about their new programming. I visited Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts - Lower School, and visited Annie Fisher STEM Magnet School to congratulate them on earning the title of NGAR Connecticut State School of Distinction in Mathematics - Level 2! I was also very proud to be a guest presenter at a welcome reception and community forum at Union Baptist Church. I want to add that it is always my pleasure to work beside and learn beside the members of our Board of Education in our committees, workshops, and meetings.

Feliciten conmigo a los docentes, el personal, las familias, los estudiantes y los directivos de la Escuela Técnico/Artística de Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas (STEM, por sus siglas en inglés) Annie Fisher. Mediante sus excelentes resultados en el Informe estatal de responsabilidad de próxima generación (NGAR, por sus siglas en inglés), se han ganado el título de Distinción escolar NGAR del Estado de Connecticut en Matemáticas - nivel 2. Los directivos escolares, el Director Erin Wilson y la Subdirectora Angela Boratko sorprendieron a sus estudiantes, familias y personal con la gran noticia en una asamblea el 5 de noviembre. La comunidad celebró junta su aumento constante en el dominio de las matemáticas, de lengua y literatura en inglés y de las ciencias.

<NUEVO> Mis primeros 100 días
Hoy fue mi 95.° día aprendiendo, escuchando y compartiendo ideas con nuestra comunidad de las HPS. Esta semana, me alegró mucho participar en la Reunión de Datos CTLM K/1 en la Escuela Comunitaria Parkville para ayudar a nuestros docentes a aprender sobre la supervisión del avance en nuestro proceso de análisis de datos, y a aprender a aplicar los resultados a la planificación de las clases. Esta sesión profundizó la comprensión de los docentes sobre el propósito y la aplicación práctica de la supervisión del avance en sus aulas. También me reuní con miembros del Departamento de Servicios de Emergencia y Protección Pública de CT para discutir sobre la seguridad escolar, y asistir al «Desayuno de Hartford Promise para el talento local» para aprender más sobre su nueva programación. Visité la Escuela Técnico/Artística de Artes Escénicas Kinsella - Escuela Básica, y visité la Escuela Técnico/Artística STEM Annie Fisher para felicitarlos por ganar el título de Distinción escolar NGAR del Estado de Connecticut en Matemáticas - nivel 2. También me sentí muy orgulloso de ser el presentador invitado en una recepción de bienvenida y un foro comunitario de la Iglesia Bautista Union. Quiero agregar que siempre es un placer trabajar y aprender junto a los miembros de la Junta de Educación en nuestros comités, talleres y reuniones.
