<NEW> Congratulations to our 2025 Early Childhood Educator of the Year
I am delighted to share with you our Early Childhood Educator of the Year, Imanol Gómez Méndez, who currently serves as an Early Childhood Educator at West Middle Elementary School! “Manny” joined the Hartford Public Schools family in 2025, infusing our pre-kindergarten program with renewed enthusiasm and energy. He brings exceptional passion, joy, and kindness to his classroom daily, consistently working to provide every opportunity for students to learn, grow, and flourish, and his commitment to cultivating an inclusive, nurturing environment where all children feel valued and empowered is exemplary.
Please join me in congratulating Manny on this well-deserved recognition. His contributions to early childhood education and the Hartford Public Schools community demonstrate the profound impact a dedicated educator can have on the lives of our youngest learners.
<NEW> Two HPS Students Earn the Hartford County Bar Association Law Day Scholarship
My congratulations go out to our students, their families and schools. Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy senior Mason Mack was one of two HPS students who earned the Hartford County Bar Association Law Day Scholarship. The Hartford County Bar Association (HCBA) Law Day Scholarship is an annual award presented to Hartford-area high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. Mason is headed to Quinnipiac University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
Yaribeliz Rodríguez is a senior at Hartford Public High School. She will be attending Central Connecticut State University in the fall, with an undecided major. Ms. Rodriguez received this award on the basis of her performance as a junior in her Introduction to Law & Justice class, where she distinguished herself with her ability to critically analyze complex situations and argue for just resolutions.

Suddenly, we’re nearing the end of May and our first commencement in our busy HPS Graduation Season! On Friday, May 22, Capital Preparatory Magnet School holds its 2026 Commencement exercises at Dunkin’ Park. <NEW> Hartford Public High School's Blue & White Night: 388th Anniversary
Did you know that Hartford Public High School is the second oldest secondary school in the United States, older even than the country itself? To honor this historic milestone, on May 14, the school affectionately known as “The Pub’” threw a celebration for the entire Hartford community —past, present, and future students and community members alike– to celebrate 388 years of excellence and tradition at Hartford Public High School. The celebration featured Student Performances and Visual Arts exhibitions, HPHS Planetarium Visits, exploration of Career Pathways and Owl Athletics, HPHS Museum tours and Scavenger Hunts, and an Alumni Get Together and Awards Ceremony. Owl Pride was strong that evening! Remember—You Can’t Rock the Pub!
<NEW> Be Inspired by our Student Artists at the 53rd Annual Hartford Youth Art Renaissance
The arts are alive and thriving in Hartford Public Schools! It is with great pride in our HPS art teachers and students that I invite you to join me as the Wadsworth, HPS art teachers, and students present Hope in Color: Art as Our Voice, the 53rd annual Hartford Youth Art Renaissance. Featuring original PreK–12 student artwork, this year’s exhibit featuring over 80 student artists representing 30 schools, provides a glimpse into the imagination and creative talent of young artists across Hartford Public Schools. <NEW> Acting alongside HPS Students in ActUp Theater’s Hip-Hop Matilda!
I was so excited to officially make my acting debut right here in Hartford, Connecticut! I had an amazing time performing alongside our incredibly talented students in Hartford’s own ActUp Theater’s Matilda: A Hip-Hop Musical Remix this morning. The student-performers have worked tirelessly, pouring their hearts, creativity, and passion into this production, and it showed!
ActUp is expecting SOLD OUT shows every matinee and evening, so come out, support our students, celebrate the arts, and witness something truly special this weekend. Hartford Public Schools continues to shine because our students continue to shine!

<NUEVO> Dos estudiantes de las HPS ganan la Beca del Día de la Ley del Colegio de Abogados del Condado de Hartford
Mis felicitaciones a nuestros estudiantes, sus familias y sus escuelas. El estudiante de último año, Mason Mack, de la Academia Técnico/Artística Trinity College de Hartford fue uno de los dos estudiantes que ganaron la Beca del Día de la Ley del Colegio de Abogados del Condado de Hartford. La pasé genial actuando, esta mañana, junto a nuestros increíblemente talentosos estudiantes en la producción del propio ActUp Theater de Hartford de Matilda: Una adaptación musical al estilo Hip-Hop. Los estudiantes actores han trabajado incansablemente, poniéndole corazón, creatividad y pasión a esta producción, ¡y eso se notó! ActUp prevé que se agoten las entradas en todas las funciones vespertinas y nocturnas, así que vengan, apoyen a nuestros estudiantes, celebren las artes y sean testigos de algo verdaderamente especial este fin de semana. ¡Las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford brillan porque nuestros estudiantes no dejan de brillar!
